Broll’s Commitment to the 67 Blankets for Mandela Day Campaign.

In the spirit of giving back, the Broll Foundation accepted the challenge to participate and contribute to the “67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day” campaign. This initiative, founded by Steyn in December 2013, has evolved into a powerful movement dedicated to honouring Nelson Mandela’s legacy through acts of kindness and charity. 

Broll challenged its two shopping centers, Granada Square and Springfield Retail Centre, to contribute to this worthy cause. Participants were invited to knit or crochet blankets, each consisting of 48 squares. These efforts culminated in the creation of 15 blankets, which were donated to the 67 Blankets for Mandela Day Campaign. 

The “67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day” campaign has achieved significant milestones since its inception. It has garnered the attention of celebrities and corporates worldwide and won the “Campaign of the Year” at the South African of the Year Awards in October 2014. The campaign also set a Guinness World Record for “The Largest Crochet Blanket in the World” in April 2015. 

Through this initiative, Broll highlights the importance of giving back to the community. The combined efforts of Granada Square, Springfield Retail Centre, and Broll surpassed the original goal of six blankets, more than doubling the target to 15 blankets. These blankets will provide warmth and comfort to those in need, embodying Mandela’s vision of a compassionate society. 

Broll’s participation in this campaign underscores its commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to making a positive impact. The collaboration with the 67 Blankets for Mandela Day Campaign reflects Broll’s ethos of community support and empowerment.
