East Coast Radio live at Springfield Retail Centre for the handover of a R100 000 solar solution to a lucky winner

Springfield Retail Centre is Durban’s favourite home of open-air shopping, with an incredible range of stores to choose from. Whether you’re looking for health and wellness, fashion, interior and home décor, furniture and lighting, tech, gadgets, food or musical instruments, you’ll find it all at Springfield Retail Centre.

To help customers beat loadshedding, the centre recently gave shoppers who spent R250 or more at any store the chance to win a complete solar solution worth R100 000. The prize included an inverter, a battery and solar panels, plus full commission and installation.

The competition ran from 31 May to 5 July 2023, with the winner being selected by a blind draw. On Friday, 14 July 2023, the centre announced their lucky winner – Sharon Sonny.

The prize handover was a fun and exciting affair, with East Coast Radio host Carol Ofori broadcasting her show live from the centre from 9am to 12pm on Thursday, 20 July 2023. Despite the cold weather, the ECR team was warmed up with cappuccinos and toasted croissants from Yiroll Caffe’bake, filled donuts and samosas from Food Lover’s Market, and delicious Durban curry bunnies from Hollywood Bunny Bar – one of the winner’s favourite eateries.

During her show, Carol highlighted the amazing range of specials available at various Springfield Retail Centre stores. She also interviewed Sharon live on air, finding out just how excited she was about her new solar set-up.

Sharon shared her stories of sitting in the dark, waiting for the lights to come back on while everyday chores piled up. Now, she will be the envy of her neighbours – the only house with lights blazing in her area when Eskom hits the switch.

“I’m extremely grateful to Springfield Retail Centre and the sponsors for such a lovely opportunity,” said Sharon. “Now I can finally say goodbye to loadshedding.”

Even Carol seemed a little jealous – and who can blame her! Sharon will soon have her own personal solar solution up and running at her home, enjoying unbroken electricity access for many years to come, and she could not stop thanking the Springfield Retail Centre team for making this dream come true.
